On December 6th, everyone on the team at Vesper sat down to pull the first 2k of the year. For me personally, it was the first time testing since the previous January. An informal poll (i.e., me randomly talking to my teammates about the 2k and simply observing the nature of the conversation at the… Read More >>>

I was inspired to write this post during a hard steady state session a few days after the Head of the Schuylkill – Philly’s big fall regatta. I was feeling pretty good after three wins and a fun weekend racing with friends, and had just run into a group of young scullers who were stopped… Read More >>>

Dear athletes and friends, Welcome to my blog! This has been an idea for the better part of two years so I’m incredibly excited to finally say, “welcome!” If you read my about page or scrolled through the photos, you’ll know that I’m a rower: I train with Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia and spend… Read More >>>

One coaching insight: Leadership development isn’ One coaching insight:

Leadership development isn’t only about learning new skills.

It’s also about expanding the way we see ourselves.

This is true for leaders. For athletes. And for anyone aiming to grow.

Question 3:

How do I need to see myself to more fully embrace my ability to...

Lead? Compete? Create? Speak up?

Fill in the blank with what matters most to you right now.

It’s a question worth sitting with. ✍️

Or share this with someone who might appreciate the invitation to notice their own unique brilliance — and let it shine. ✨
My battery was depleted after an intense four-day My battery was depleted after an intense four-day event last month. In its wake, one word was clear in my mind:

Recalibrate.

There were aspects of rest and recovery that I needed, but this was something different.

I learned H.A.L.T. in the context of decision-making:

Hungry? Angry? Lonely? Tired?

No big decisions during this time.

It’s also a tool that can help you let go of judgment when you don’t feel quite right.

Hungry? Angry? Lonely? Tired?

Meet yourself with care. Or love. Or understanding. Or grace.

Then start fine-tuning. Lean into: Recalibrate. 😉
Gratitude can be incredibly hard to channel when y Gratitude can be incredibly hard to channel when you’re in the thick of a challenging moment.

Question 3: I recently leaned on this one to help me shift my mindset — and honestly, my demeanor — while I worked through an issue that kept me relegated to the bike for my workouts.

So, I’ll toss it to you:

Whose energy can you call on when you want to make a shift but you’re feeling stuck in a rut?

Sometimes it helps to bring a mentor, role model, or someone you admire to mind. ✍️
