Meet Your Mentors
Bio:
Sophie started rowing at 12 years old through a local summer camp in Cleveland, Ohio after discovering the sport by watching the 2012 London Olympics. She quickly fell in love and joined her high school team as soon as she could. Although it was a small scholastic program from the Midwest, Sophie qualified for Scholastic Nationals all four years and eventually won the Women’s Youth Single title her senior year. She carried her passion and drive onto college, where she attended the University of Texas at Austin.
Sophie earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and was a member of Texas’ women’s rowing team. During her four years at Texas, Sophie helped the team as a spare to their first win in 2021, rowed in the first varsity eight in its back-to-back 2022 win, and completed her collegiate career with a varsity eight and team placement of fifth in 2023. In addition, Sophie earned a spot on the 2022 U23 US National Team in the women’s quad that finished sixth overall.
Sophie is currently training to make the US Senior National Team with her eyes on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Her interests outside of rowing are baking, cooking, reading, and spending time in nature. Sophie recently picked up cross-country skate skiing, which she has been enjoying as a way to cross train!
